Using Remote Terminal Emulators

Remote terminal emulators (RTE) are software applications that emulate real user activity, typically on PCs, browsers, or ASCII terminals. Rather than find enough hardware and real users to stress-test an application, it is easier to use an RTE. A number of sophisticated products are available on the market (for example, preVue from Rational). The HandsOff Remote Terminal Emulator, a character-based RTE is available on the book website for both the SPARC and x86 Solaris platforms. Web-based emulators, referred to as Remote Browser Emulators, are becoming available.
