System Database

The sysmaster database, established when XPS is initialized, provides access to database statistics with standard SQL. It is presented as a readonly database with a number of tables, although the tables are in fact pseudotables that reside in memory as internal database structures.

The sysmaster database contains a number of system monitoring interface (SMI) tables that provide information about the state of the database server. For example, you can monitor resource usage, locks, session information, extents, and VP CPU usage.

The following tables are examples of those available in the sysmaster database:

  • syschunks— Chunk information and statistics.

  • syscogroup— Information about cogroups.
