Process Model
Sybase ASE uses a multithreaded architecture to make efficient use of CPU and memory resources. The multithreaded Sybase kernel, which uses Sybase’s own threading model rather than Solaris threads, handles scheduling and dispatching of user threads and internal database threads. See “Multithreaded Architectures” on page 59 for more information on multithreaded database architectures.
Symmetrical multiprocessing support for ASE is provided by Sybase’s Virtual Server Architecture (VSA) which supports multiple database engines.
