Physical Data Storage

Oracle databases for both OLTP and DSS applications are implemented as a single data store; Oracle does not use a shared-nothing architecture. Tablespace files store database blocks (data, index, rollback segments, and temporary storage), and log information is held in redo log files. Status information about database files is held in control files. This section examines each of these file types.
