Accounting information might be stored at the head office location, production and manufacturing data at the manufacturing plant, and stock details at the warehouse. Sometimes data is held centrally, and access from other sites is achieved through wide area networks (WANs). Alternatively, data may be held at each site and subsets shipped to other sites as required. Another example is a college with teaching facilities spread across several different campuses. Rather than storing all student details centrally, the college can store student data at the campus the students most frequently attend.
