Chapter 5. Introduction to Database Architecture

The implementation details of each Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) are unique, and different database suppliers use different terms to describe the behavior of their products. Nevertheless, the fundamental design of all relational databases is similar. In this chapter, we examine the architecture and process models of the major RDBMS products and also consider briefly the architecture and relevance of transaction monitors.
