Interviewing the Accused

It is usually best to interview the accused last. This way, the investigator has all the information from others and will be better able to determine which questions should be asked.

Before the investigator begins to question the individual who is the subject of the inquiry, several preliminaries must be attended to:

1.  There should be no presumption of guilt or innocence at this time. The individual being accused should be told that there is an ongoing investigation being conducted concerning allegations against him or her and that the purpose is to determine the truth about what really happened.

2.  The individual should be provided a copy of the complaint or a summary of the allegations being made against him ...
