ndc in BIND 4

The very handy ndc program was not added until BIND 4.9.3-beta10, and then it was a shell script. Not all vendors included ndc in their UNIX, so even if your BIND is newer than that, you might not have it. Because it is a relatively simple shell script, you easily can install it by getting the BIND 4.9.7 package and extracting and installing it manually on your DNS servers . A number of %VARIABLE% strings are inside the script; these values can be found in the named/Makefile file. Note that the ndc program in BIND 8 is very different from the one in BIND 4, but it should work because BIND 4 and 8 have at least one signaling mechanism in common—namely, signals such as those sent with the kill shell command.
