ASCLD/LAB Accreditation
The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB), is a nonprofit professional society of crime laboratory directors and forensic science managers that seeks to promote excellence in forensic science through leadership and innovation. Among their various programs, the organization runs a crime laboratory accreditation program through an accreditation board (available online at http://www.ascld-lab.org). Obtaining accreditation is a time-consuming and expensive process, but accreditation results in crime labs operating on an equal footing with governmental crime laboratories like those operated by the FBI and the US Secret Service.
