Application of the theory of the electromagnetic field for calculating diffractive gratings

If the characteristic dimensions of the steps of the DOE microreliefs on which light diffraction takes place are comparable with the wavelength, the scalar approximation can not be used for the adequate description of the diffraction process. In this case, it is necessary to apply the general electromagnetic theory of light based on the Maxwell equations. The electromagnetic theory of light diffraction was described briefly in chapter 1. In this chapter, solutions are presented of a number of direct and inverse problems of diffraction on one-dimensional and two-dimensional diffractive gratings within the framework of electromagnetic theory.
