Proxy Servers

Though not strictly a security tool, a proxy server can be used to filter out undesirable traffic and prevent employees from accessing potentially hostile web sites. A proxy server takes requests from a client system and forwards them to the destination server on behalf of the client. Proxy servers can be completely transparent (these are usually called gateways or tunneling proxies), or a proxy server can modify the client request before sending it on or even serve the client’s request without needing to contact the destination server.
