Windows is mind-bogglingly complex. Other operating systems are too, but the mere fact that Windows 7 has nearly 50 million lines of code (and over 2,000 developers worked on it!) makes you pause and shake your head.

Operating systems other than Windows can have issues that are not covered in this chapter. The CompTIA A+ exam asks questions on only Windows operating systems, so that’s all we’ll cover here. There are several good books on the market on UNIX, Linux, or MAC OS X, that are handy references to have if you work on those operating systems.
