Understand the fundamental reasons for choosing one operating system over another.

The most important factor when choosing an operating system is to ensure that your hardware and software will be compatible with the operating system. If you have older hardware or mission-critical applications that will not run with the current version of Windows, for example, then it might make sense to run an older operating system.

Know what the boot files are and the order in which they load
