1.8. Verifying Driver Installation

To ensure that the drivers for a device are working properly, you should check three things:

  • The device is listed in Device Manager, and it displays a "working properly" message. If you see the Question mark category, you have some devices installed that do not have drivers.

  • Make sure that the device available to its own management or control software. For instance, if a scanner does not show up in the scanning software application, that could be due to a faulty driver.

  • Make sure that the device is yielding predictable results when used. If not, the issue could be driver-related.

NOTE

In most cases, if the drive is listed as working in Device Manager, the device driver is loaded properly for the device. So, the issues might actually be settings for the device or a hardware failure.
