The traditional boundaries between communications, information processing, television and computing systems have disappeared. Today, the term telecommunications virtually represents an all-embracing technology. The reasons for this convergence are related to the rapid development and expansion of electronic and semiconductor technologies that have occurred over the recent past.

This book owes its origins to the difficulties experienced in finding suitable reference information needed to understand the terminology and jargon of this expanding field.
