Chapter 6

Network topology design

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the initial stage of network design, namely the design of the network topology. The wavelength-division multiplexing network is taken as an example to illustrate the traditional concerns and approaches in network topology design. Then the network topology design, taking into consideration the physical dynamics of a cyber physical system, is formulated as an optimization problem. Finally, a related framework in team decision theory is briefly introduced.
