Abstract

The basic characteristics and functions of the fuselage are described. Design techniques for the fuselage are covered, including planning and sizing the overall configuration, culminating in the generation of three-view drawings outlining the proposed aircraft fuselage configuration. An introduction to cabin volume and pressure requirements for commercial aircraft is presented. The design process for laying out the cabin cross-section and the seating plan is discussed. Methods for estimating the overall fuselage width and length, including nose cone and tail cone lengths, are illustrated.
