Chapter 9

Outlook

Abstract

The main motivation for this study was to understand the basic underlying mechanisms that define the oxycoal combustion and, based on this knowledge, to develop a technology for reliable combustion of pulverised fuel in oxy-firing furnaces. Therefore, the main results obtained and reported here can be used as guidelines for design and operation of large, utility-scale burners, thus ensuring stable, controlled, and safe combustion of PF in both air and oxy-firing modes. The combustion technology developed and described here is seen to pave the way to an industrial-scale implementation of the oxyfuel CCS option when PF is fired.
