Messaging Weaknesses

So what's the down side of messaging? Well, in my opinion, the advent of messaging and the transaction-based application server (MTS/COM+) on the Windows platform make the most significant step forward in enterprise application support since the release of Windows NT itself. Of course, every technology has its place, and messaging might not fit into the model at every turn. The following are examples of the weaknesses of messaging:

  • Typically slower end-to-end processing.

  • Asynchronous execution complicates cross-component synchronization.
