achromatic

Without hue; white, black, and gray are achromatic.

additive color theory

The combination of the three primary colors of light (red, green, and blue) results in white light.

alphanumeric

A system for referencing multiple items using both letters and numbers. Albert Munsell devised an alphanumeric system to designate colors by hue, value, and chroma.

aspirational fashion

The idea that consumers adopt the mode of dress worn by the upper classes in order to imply status, while style changes are driven by the upper classes in order to differentiate themselves from the masses. First theorized by Georg Simmel in 1904. See also trickle-down theory
