15.1 Introduction

Color displays are used together with computers in many applications which have nothing to do with color, and where color is used only as an organizing category for the display of information. But color displays are also important tools in all fields of color design, color reproduction, color science and other color technologies. This chapter treats the color display mainly as a tool for the generation of specified colors or color patterns.
