Chapter 6. Shapes

Like HSL Qualification, another way of isolating specific features for correction is the use of vignettes, which are also referred to as shapes, masks, Power Windows (DaVinci), or Spot Corrections (Avid). The idea is simple: You create a shape around the subject you want to adjust, usually a simple oval or rectangle, although most applications also let you draw Bezier shapes of any kind (Figure 6.1). The shape you draw creates a grayscale matte that is used to limit your correction to the areas either inside or outside of that shape.
