Chapter 5. The Finer Points

We’ve worked on centralizing our workflow in a Site, recognized the need for Source Control Management, and checked out our preferences. Now, time to dig deeper into the finer points of Coda’s editing environment.

The Views

With Sample Site open in Coda, we can see three distinct columns (provided you haven’t changed your preferences too much) in the Files tab: Local View, Remote View, and the Sidebar.

Local View

At the top we have the path bar. One thing to note is the loupe at the far left of the path bar. Clicking on it opens a search window where you can find a file by name if you know it. This isn’t incredibly useful with the one file we have in our Site, but it will be when you have 200 files in a Site. Also, you can narrow your search to just a folder by clicking the arrow next to the magnifying glass in the search box and selecting Choose Folder.

Below the path bar is a file list. You can Control-click at the top where it lists Name, Size, and Date to bring up additional information display options.

Remote View

If you have configured your Site to connect to a remote server, this is where you’ll find those files once you’re connected, just like just using a typical FTP application. When you open your Site from Coda’s launch screen, the remote view will automatically connect. You can disconnect from the remote connection by clicking the eject icon at the top-right side of the Remote View section.
