About the Cover Illustration

The figure on the cover of Code Generation in Action is a “Beduino Armado,” an armed Bedouin taken from a Spanish compendium of regional dress customs first published in Madrid in 1799. Nomadic Bedouin tribes roamed the Arabian desert on horseback for many hundreds of years until their decline in the twentieth century. The adventure and freedom of their lifestyle continue to captivate the modern imagination.

The Bedouin on the cover certainly depended on his horse to get him where he needed to go. Replacing “horse” with “code generator,” the words of the Bedouin legend might still apply to the adventuresome developer of today: “God took a handful of southerly wind, blew His breath over it and created the horse.” ...
