The Specification-Writing Process

Now knowing the types of specification we must produce and what should go in them, we’re armed and ready. It’s time to write something! The specification-writing process is simple:

  1. Select the appropriate document template to start from. This may be provided as part of a defined project development process. If there is no template, base it on an existing specification.

  2. Write the document. Okay, this is the hard part. What you write naturally depends on the type of specification.

  3. Arrange for the document to be reviewed. Include all the people with an interest in it.
