Set a Quality Target

In order to improve your skill, you gain most if you have a clear sense of what the improvement will be like in the future. The aim ‘to be a better coach’ is vague. More specific goals may include delivering a course assignment, passing an accreditation, logging a number of coaching hours or doing a personal competency check after each session.

Setting well-formed outcomes reminds you to set specific evidence criteria. Get clear on what that quality improvement is like and how you know when you arrive. Chapter 7 covers fulfilling the well-formed outcome conditions, which you can apply to your own coaching.

After you reach one level, stretch yourself even further to master the next. There's always more to learn.
