Chapter . Feedback

The giving and receiving of feedback is the heart of coaching. Since coaches view their subordinates as partners in the work effort, clear, effective communication is essential. This often requires a balanced discussion of the work situation in which the supervisor provides understanding all the while preserving the employee's freedom and dignity. This approach is generally considered a “supportive” approach.

There are two types of feedback:

Positive feedback indicates that performance meets or exceeds the supervisor's expectations.
