Appendix 1Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis (TA), a theory created by Dr. Eric Berne, has been around since the 1960s, going in and out of fashion. In some instances, the message of TA has been caricatured, often giving a false impression of simplism. In other instances, the ideas have been woven into “new” models. The TA theory elegantly captures fundamental elements of interpersonal communication and self-awareness. Explaining TA is beyond the scope of this book, but you will find some key notions in this appendix. You will also find some of the TA tools I share with coachees to help them improve their communication.
