Chapter 3Why Process Improvement Isn’t Trivial

Lest you misinterpret anything we have discussed so far, be aware that process improvement (PI) is not trivial. First, it is an intentional activity—that is, if you start a PI project, it won’t run on autopilot; you have to pay attention to it.

Second, many collateral activities have to go on to support a PI initiative. These initiatives do require resources, for example, and unless you personally have control of sufficient resources, you will have to establish and sustain sponsorship for the activity from someone who does.
