Capacity
Availability due to downtime is an issue, but availability may also be impacted by lack of capacity. If a Web site is not responding, does it have a software problem? Is the data center offline? Has a network connection been lost? Has the site been hit by a distributed denial of service attack? Or is it just that the capacity is insufficient?
To customers, the reason doesn’t really matter—they will take their business elsewhere or rethink their purchase decision. The cloud creates value in this case through the capture of marginal revenue and the reduction of negative impacts associated with insufficient capacity.
