Because SaaS is first and foremost a service, it can have the advantage of contractually bound service-level agreements regarding performance or availability, unlike a captive internal IT shop. No one wants the environment to fail, whether it’s internally sourced or delivered externally as a service. However, there can be advantages to the contractual guarantees inherent in commercial, arm’s-length services.
