Cloud Data Center Networking Topologies
Abstract
Just as switch silicon provides the building blocks for networking systems, networking systems provide the basic building blocks for cloud data center networks. In this chapter, we describe various types of networking equipment and how they are interconnected to form cloud data center networks. We also describe the recent trend toward flat data center networks and what that requires from networking equipment. We then give some insights into new data center trends such as rack scale architectures, microservers, and network functional virtualization.
