CHAPTER 10Software plus Services

Up to this point we have talked about organizational IT design in absolute terms—either you store your applications and data locally, or you employ a cloud solution. We didn’t talk about any middle ground. It certainly would be nice to have the flexibility to mix and match, to use the best of both worlds in a way that better suits your requirements. The good news is that you can have it your way.

The answer is Software plus Services. In this architecture, you maintain some software on-site, which accesses data stored on the cloud. This is especially good for remote workers, road warriors, telecommuters, and anyone else who needs to be away from the corporate datacenter.
