This service is in Beta stage at the time of writing. Cloud Function assists us in building Serverless Applications. With serverless applications, as the name suggests, we do not own any server (or any infrastructure as such) of our own. The infrastructure will come into the picture only when customers have a demand of it. If the application has not been accessed by any person in the last 10 hours then you won't be charged for that. Plus it is fully managed!
When to use:
If you want to have a backend to your mobile or want to collect IoT data over GCP Pub/Sub and send it to a database, these are the perfect scenarios for using Cloud Function.
