Block storage is usually deployed in a storage area network (SAN) environment and they are accessible through a fiber channel (FC) or iSCSI. But for us as user, each block can be controlled as an individual hard drive, which is controlled by a server-based OS. We can format each block individually with the required filesystem, such as NTFS, VMFS (VMware), SMB (Windows), and NFS.
