Cloud Storage is an object storage. But what exactly is Object Storage? Object storage organizes information into flexi-size containers called as objects, and these objects are our files of any extension. Every object (or file in our terms) comprises data and its metadata. Every object needs to have a globally unique name. Data is stored as separate objects and not placed in any hierarchy of directories, like what we have in the Windows OS.

Object storage uses two ways to protect the data:

  • Replication: Stores multiple copies of each object on different nodes.
  • Erasure coding: This divides an object into multiple pieces and calculates multiple parities. Parity is a technique that checks whether data has been lost or overwritten ...
