Chapter 21. Image Management

Introduction

One function in lifecycle management intersects interoperability and prototyping and staging and integration: image management. Image management is the ongoing support and updating of the image. Depending on the size and scope of a business, image management may be a part of either function (interoperability and prototyping, staging and integration) or a function unto itself.

Most of the time, image management is handled by engineering, aided by a set or a suite of management tools to provide patch management and version control (software fixes). In some cases, the work does not require rigorous testing, so it can be consolidated on to the configuration. (Of course, some level of analysis is always required.) ...
