WILL CHINA’S CITIES GO GREEN?
Since September 2006, Google China has been headquartered in a ten-story building near the fourth western ring road of Beijing, roughly 8 miles north-west of Tiananmen Square. The location is surrounded by bigger buildings housing clusters of high-tech firms filled with young workers. In September 2009 I spent two weeks in a hotel across the street from Google China. Although I am “only” forty-four, I felt like an old man because the happy workers in this high-tech cluster were in their twenties and early thirties. This employment center is very close to Tsinghua University’s Southern Gate.
