WILL MANHATTAN FLOOD?
My parents, who live in Manhattan, go bird watching in Central Park; some New Yorkers jog on river paths, and they certainly sun themselves when the weather finally turns pleasant. But most New Yorkers spend most of their time inside, insulated from summer heat and winter cold. Manhattan is filled with rich people who escape the summer humidity by retreating to vacation areas. In midsummer, Manhattan feels nearly deserted. You can even get into the fancy restaurants in August. Everyone has left for the Hamptons, and some have gone to France. If climate change turns up the heat, then the wealthy will spend even less time hanging around the city during summer.
But of course there is more to New York City than Manhattan. ...
