That night, we knew we had done our best and had no regrets. We knew things don’t always go right, yet we knew if things went wrong, our clients would know we’d done our best and wouldn’t blame us. Honesty was the best insurance we could buy.

The other day, I heard an agent say, “If you haven’t been sued, you aren’t doing enough business.” I thought about that. On the one hand, I was saddened by the expectation it implied and, on the other hand, struck by the notion that litigation is a fact of life. By being honest, your chances of being sued plummet.
