Far to Go

The first half of my life I had a few friends, dealt with family, and got lucky enough to find JoAnn. I cried at movies and gave to a few charities when asked. I thought of myself as socially adjusted. By comparison, JoAnn has always been more social than I am, but she’s had her own challenges, one of which is putting up with me. We were normal. Clients First changed us. Suddenly, we had a reason to care about others. Our clients looked to us, and if we were to do whatever it took to keep them, we had to care. As much as we thought of ourselves as nice people, Clients First made us see how far we had to go. Silly as it sounds, we had to learn to like people.

You may already think of yourself as a people person, or you may have a long way to go, but when you arrive at step 9, you will learn the joy of people. Clients First will open you to seeing people in a new way. You will want to know their stories.

People are fascinating. Ask whether someone has brothers and sisters, and you may open up a series of sibling rivalry tales or, conversely, learn about the solitude of being an only child. Ask people what they were doing on 9/11, and you may be surprised at how connected our world is. Everyone has a story to tell. You need only ask a few questions to cue the storyteller.
