Better for It

How many times do we hear that the greater crime is not a momentary lapse of good judgment, but rather in the cover-up that follows? Watergate, a simple burglary, brought down an American president who thought he could cover it up. Had Richard Nixon taken responsibility for the poor selection and even poorer management of some of his closest advisers, had he trusted the truth and cleaned house, the American people might have reelected him. Even if they had not, Nixon’s disgrace would have been mitigated and we would have been better for it.

We are human beings, and with that fact comes the realization that we are not perfect. We make mistakes. Were it not for our mistakes, we would not learn from our life experiences. Yes, mistakes have consequences. Accept them and move on. Trust the truth and it will bring you joy and peace.
