It’s Your Elephant

But isn’t it important to have a strong ego, a strong sense of yourself? Yes, as long as you are the one in charge. Think of it as owning an elephant. Elephants are raised with a small rope around their ankles tying them to a stake. A baby elephant can’t pull this stake out of the ground, so the young elephant believes it cannot escape. As the elephant matures into a powerful creature, it continues to believe it cannot escape from this small tether. The elephant’s handler uses this and other techniques to control the elephant. Now, with your elephant, you can lift great weights, clear debris, tow anything, and transport many people, provided you are in control. But the day you let your elephant run loose, everything in its path can be destroyed. Your commitment to Clients First can be the tether that keeps your elephant obedient. But it is a small rope and a big elephant, so you must have additional tricks up your sleeve, such as understanding self-importance.
