One of the most dangerous items of network design is the increasing need for remote-access capabilities for workers. With the advent of telecommuting, the strain of providing secure networks has become even more difficult to manage. I recently read a trade article that mentioned that 25% of IBM's global workforce telecommutes, and a sizable number of those users do not even have a formal desk.
