IPv6 on Linux
According to the Linux IPv6 website managed by Peter Bieringer, the first Linux code with IPv6 support appeared in 1996 for the kernel version 2.1.8. Today, IPv6 support for Linux version 2.4.x and higher is available in two different ways:
Native IPv6 support— The several Linux distributions such as Red Hat, Debian, SuSe, Slackware, and Turbo, support IPv6. However, to enable IPv6 on your Linux system, you need to build a kernel with IPv6 support.
