In the previous section, we explored establishing the routing environment and creating the routing table via static routes. Although entire networks could be run using static routes, they would be tedious to manage and would not be very responsive to outages and topology changes that could occur on a frequent basis.

To address these concerns, dynamic routing protocols were developed.
