Working with Your Hardware Vendor

It might be that your router configuration is correct but the IOS software is not operating properly. This is when a bug ID must be opened with the hardware vendor. A bug ID is a reference number that Cisco assigns to known problems which are discovered in the IOS. This bug ID is used to reference any other reports that might come in regarding similar problems from other Cisco customers.

In the case of Cisco, getting a bug ID can be done simply by calling their Technical Assistance Center (TAC). They will gather some information from you, assign a case number, and then forward you to a Cisco engineer.
