Troubleshooting Cisco Hardware

All the Cisco interface cards have LED displays that show the current status of the individual ports on the interface card. The various interface cards have several LEDs that signify different things depending on the interface type. One LED that all interface cards have in common is the Enabled light. This LED signifies that the card has been recognized by the IOS and is ready for use on the router. A few things that would cause this LED to not be lit are

  • Improper IOS version for the interface card. All interface cards require a specific IOS version or higher.

  • The card is not seated fully in the backplane connector. Verify that the card is inserted fully and evenly and that the retaining screws are tightened. ...
