Pathchar

Pathchar is a recently developed tool that attempts to provide more useful information than PING and traceroute. It enables users to find the bandwidth, delay, average queue, and loss rate of every hop between any source and destination on the Internet.

Pathchar can be found on the Internet at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Network Research Group's anonymous FTP server. Currently, there are only binaries available for Solaris, FreeBSD, Linux, NetBSD, and OSF. The source code has not been made available yet. The program takes a great deal of time to run because of all the mathematical calculations that need to be made for each hop along the path.
