Chapter 11. Troubleshooting

There are basically two types of Network Administrators, the proactive type and the reactive type. A proactive Network Administrator uses monitoring tools to fix problem areas before actual trouble occurs. A reactive Network Administrator answers reports of network trouble and fixes problems after they have occurred. It is always better to be a proactive Network Administrator, but you do not always get to choose. Circumstances might dictate what role you will take. In general though, you will do yourself well to pursue proactive troubleshooting of your network rather than wait for something bad to happen.
